The winners of the FPDC Plaisterers’ Awards 2012 were celebrated by industry leaders at a glittering prize giving ceremony in Number One London Wall on Tuesday 5th February 2013.

FPDC interim director Steve Halcrow commented: “This year the variety of projects in contention has been tremendous – and the winning projects are a fantastic showcase for the outstanding work of our specialist trades.”

Judges from the FPDC Plaisterers’ Awards inspected the work carried out by M Clarke and Sons Contracts Limited at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, and after careful consideration, felt they were the worthy winners.

At the Enniskillen Hospital, M Clarke and Sons applied insulated render to an area of more than 10,000 square metres. The chosen system was Stotherm Mineral K. Two base coats of Sto Armarat Classic were applied either side of reinforcing mesh with a top coat of Sto Lotusan K1.5.

With almost 40 employees working on the site over a 7 month period, the South West Hospital in Enniskillen was one of the most demanding and prestigious projects the firm has worked on.

Indeed, the South West Acute Hospital project is the largest project Northern Ireland has seen in recent times and cost an estimated £275 million. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in June 2012, the hospital is the greenest hospital in the UK, as well as being the first hospital in Northern Ireland to have single en-suite rooms for every patient.

The hospital has 300 beds with state of the art facilities as well as an un-institutional environment to further aid recovery with views of the landscape and rural surroundings.

As the only Northern Irish firm competing in the competition and with the Enniskillen Hospital being the only Northern Irish project nominated for the awards, Commercial Director of M Clarke and Sons Contracts Limited, Eugene Clarke, commented “This is truly a testament to the complete focus and hard work of our dedicated teams. To be recognised for quality, by industry experts, on an ultra demanding, and prestigious project such as the South West Hospital is very encouraging”.

M Clarke and Sons Contracts Limited has been developing over 30 years and is enjoying a period of continued growth and expansion. The company has become one of the market leaders in the facades, flooring and internal finishes sectors. Three new permanent employees have joined the firm during the last year, taking the total number of staff to 80.

Recent projects completed in England include: the Hilton Hotel, Heathrow Airport; the Sports campus at Cambridge University and the Spirit of Stratford tower block at the Olympic village.

M Clarke and Sons Contracts Limited have also just secured one of their biggest projects to date, namely, the student’s accommodation complex at Southampton University, worth an estimated £1.3 million.
